I plan to use a classroom set of Grace Lin's phenomenal book Where the Mountain Meets the Moon to improve literacy and promote the practice of skills and strategies that are the foundation of good reading. Using this incredible fantasy I will invite my students to use a multitude of skills and strategies to determine the theme of the story, compare and contrast it with other books and stories students are familiar with. This special book demands that students look deeper, and that's what I plan to have them do.
