Our students are in full In-Person learning this year and many of them live with grandparents and family members that are immunocompromised. After a year of Distance Learning, many students in my class are behind and would benefit greatly from having In Person learning. However in order for that to happen, I want to make sure that they are safe when they're at school and also go home and keep their family safe as well. These plexiglass shields along with wearing mask would help increase that chance of being able to stay healthy longer.
Because of new procedures, my students have to eat in the classroom next to each other with their masks off. These plexiglass shields can help my students to still eat more safely and still be able to converse with one another. It will also greatly increase the amount of learning conversation that we can have throughout the day with turn and talk to discuss ideas and new learnings.
I am also asking for wireless microphones and speaker for the students to use. Many of the students have soft voices and with the mask, it is difficult to hear the students if you're not next to them. So having to ask them to repeat themselves, sometimes make them feel less confident and less likely to share their thinking. With the microphone and speaker, the whole class will be able to hear each other during sharing time and thus increase the amount of learning that can happen in the classroom.
These two items would truly be a life-saver for In Person learning this year in our classroom and help my fifth graders build confidence and gain the knowledge they need to be successful.
