I am requesting decodable readers that focus on phonics skills. My students entered their first grade year with underdeveloped phonics skills, mainly due to remote learning and other classroom complications brought on by COVID-19. We have worked very hard learning basic phonemic awareness and phonological awareness skills. Now that we are ready to read, we do not have enough decodable books to meet all of their needs. Decodable books are wonderful tools to help readers solidify their foundational phonics skills. Jumping in to leveled or guided reading books can prolong their journey to be successful readers. Leveled reading books can seem intimidating while decodable books allow them to use the skills they are learning. We all know that practice makes perfect. Having a supply of decodable books for my students to read will only help with their success.
