The items we've chosen will be used to engage students during assemblies we hold during the school year. In the past, we've had assemblies where students from the different grades compete against each other in activities like tug of war, "human" version of the game Hungry Hungry Hippo, relay races, etc. In addition, we can "loan" the items we've chosen this year to other student groups for bonding activities throughout the year or to our physical education teachers for use in their classes. The students in my group are in charge of planning the different activities for school-wide assemblies. It gives them a chance to demonstrate such skills as being organized, engaging other students, being responsible, managing time, working as a team, and offering opportunities to demonstrate leadership qualities. This experience gives them confidence and develops teamwork as they work together to successfully plan and execute a school-wide assembly.
