The books I've selected will be read by fourth and fifth graders preparing to participate in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. Students must read and discuss these books to prepare themselves for the competition. Our reading bowl participants are from low-income households that would never be able to afford so many books on their own. This bowl is open to 10 students, 5 competitors and 5 alternates. When I put out the call for participants I was astounded by the enthusiastic response. They are so excited to get started reading and to compete against other students in the district. I am looking forward to watching them grow through reading.
