As a reading teacher, independent reading is a daily learning activity within my 5th grade classroom. Currently, my students are seated in the hard plastic chairs at their desks. I often see them reposition to get comfortable which distracts them from their reading focus and full enjoyment of their books. When my students have the option to move around the room, I notice they are more engaged in their learning. These flexible seating options will allow my students to feel comfortable while fully engaging in their books while independent reading. The variety of seating options will promote an engaging reading environment. By allowing them to have comfortable places to sit, they will be able to get lost in the stories they are reading.
