Spikeball is a game that introduced the game of volleyball through small 2v2 or 4v4 player games. It has been growing in popularity amongst students, can be played anywhere, and is quick and easy to set up with minimal equipment. Teaching spikeball would allow my students to develop transferable movement skills (e.g., sending and receiving skills, ready position, hand-eye coordination), concepts (e.g., spatial awareness, force, anticipation), and game strategies (e.g., court awareness, placement to open space, defending court space) related to net wall games such as volleyball, badminton, tennis and pickleball. This past year has been extra hard on students and they have been so excited to play sports and interact with their peers again. Physical activity is extremely important to their physical and mental health and as a teacher it is important for me to provide new and relevant opportunities for my students to learn new games and forms of physical activity that ensure all students find enjoyment, increase confidence, and competence to be active throughout their lives.
