Middle school students are growing and have many social and emotional needs. Some of those are incentives to buy into their learning. I plan to use an incentive system that rewards students for being independent learners as individuals and as class. Students who are following expectations, going forward with the objectives, and managing themselves will be rewarded with a marble in a class jar. Class sections will compete against each other and the winning class will get a party of their choice at the end of the semester. Another part of the wish list is items for a student self care corner. Middle school students are learning how to take care of themselves as their bodies and life experiences change. In a Title I school, with many low-income students, students might not have the option for self care on certain days. A student that doesn't feel good about how they feel hinders their learning and presence in the class. A self care corner provides them with lotions, deodorants, band-Aids, and other self care products that students can take as they need. With both things, I hope to empower my students with resources to take care of their learning and their health.
