My eighth grade middle school students enjoy reading interesting, lively, and relevant texts. I have provided colorful Scholastic Scope magazines to students in the past and have witnessed them come alive as readers and thinkers. The discussions are rich and intense when student experts on the content eagerly share background knowledge while others make connections. The magazines provide diverse genres which meet the desires of academic curriculum while providing text short enough to close read and analyze in one sitting. In addition, the novels I have chosen will support literature circles beyond whole class learning.

About my class
