At the beginning of the year, students will learn to identify the letters in their names by making their names with magnetic letters. Once students can identify the letters in their names we move on to all 26 letters of the alphabet. Then to building sight words to support their beginning reading skills. Learning letters and sounds in kindergarten is the foundation for reading development! Magnetic letters support students' letter identification skills, letter-sound correspondence, and phonics skills! Using magnetic letters daily will help my students in kindergarten internalize the shape and feel of letters. This internalization builds alphabet fluency, which is a predictor of future reading success. Learning letters and sounds in kindergarten is the foundation for reading development!
