My classroom is in one of the oldest buildings on our campus. I was lucky enough to have my class renovated 2 years ago to convert it into a science classroom, with sinks, lab tables, and glassware storage cabinets. However, in the process of moving, my small sliding whiteboard was installed far to one side of the front of the classroom, making it difficult to see from the opposite side of the room. In addition, the lab table set up make it difficult to set the projector far enough from the screen to make the image large enough for the whole class to see. My solution was to cover the far end of my classroom with bulletin board paper across the unused windows so that I could project information to share with the class. Even with this paper screen, my students still tell me they have a hard time seeing, since the paper is lumpy and crinkled, and even falls in the middle of class. A retractable projector screen to replace the makeshift paper screen would be an absolute blessing, helping my students at the back of the room to be able to see information and/or videos clearly. My students are working on presentation skills in order to prepare for a sustainability proposal project. A nice screen would help them to feel more confident in sharing the presentations they worked hard to create, as well as allow the rest of the class and any other audience members to see it clearly and easily.
