Students in our grade level come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, including trauma. Some students have difficulty with focusing on their classwork because of strong feelings and emotions. Outbursts and tantrums disrupt the learning environment. Our school is one of a handful of schools in the county that has been given the opportunity to receive training and support from Hope Street on Trauma-Informed care (including restorative practices) in the classroom. The goal is to build relationships and meet the complex needs of the students, especially those who have experienced trauma. This project will provide the materials our students need to use in the class room to help regulate in order to recharge and refocus on academic learning. The materials will include hands on materials (fidget toys, fidget wristbands, squeeze toys, sensory water toys) refocus tools (mints), and emotional support aids (band-aid). All these items are to help regulate their little bodies, and help them refocus and get back on track and ready to learn.
