Our school is the expulsion site for the school district and we do not allow students to have their phones on campus. Without their phones, they are able to fully focus on their education however, I also want to teach my students with disabilities to find and use appropriate apps that can help them in their everyday lives. So having an iPad for our class, they can practice those skills with me, and then go home and generalize those skills on their own phones or devices. Having an iPad in our class will give my students the ability to research and practice using apps that help with executive functioning skills, job training, and even apps that help kids with dyslexia read important information in the world around them! Technology, especially phones and apps, are a part of our everyday lives, I want to help my students use technology to their advantage so they are not taken advantage of, so they can thrive out there in the world!
