I am requesting eight portable white boards for team problem solving and gallery walks to share what they know in Algebra class. Students have been learning separately for a period of time and it is very important for them to interact with each other. Student engagement while learning benefits students' interpersonal skills, and improves academic learning. Use of portable dry erase presentation boards for TEAM activities allows students to coordinate, present and display what they know to and with their group. Some students often have the confidence to express their ideas and ask questions in a small group, but not in front of the whole class. Group learning encourages students to value and learn from each other, and build confidence in what they know. Collaborative activities focus on individual group members sharing authority and communicating with each other to problem solve or build consensus regarding a topic. Each math class I teach has 35 - 40 students. These eight portable dry erase boards will allow groups of 4 - 5 students to work collaboratively together. Working with other students allows them to develop new ways of thinking about math, learn to communicate using math vocabulary, and understand ideas better by having to explain one’s thinking to others. This is also a great learning strategy for ELL and students with special needs.
