These books will help my students see themselves in books, experience different worlds outside of their own, and practice re-telling stories to be able to share with their peers. Each of these books has been carefully selected to help my students build a rich vocabulary who have difficulty with language skills. These selected books will also help target social communication skills by recognition of everyday interactions and experiences, so they may share the stories to those around them and use them to help express their feelings. Books help bridge the gap between my special education students and what they are learning in the classroom and their life. I have worked with my colleagues to select books that are integrated into their classroom and other studies, so for students that need extra help we can work on those books together during speech language sessions. Books help my students take ownership of their learning and engage based on their interests.
