My students are treated each day to a beautifully restored historic school building with a long and rich history. My science classroom has 14 foot ceilings and many large windows overlooking a treelined campus. Standing in here you can imagine all of the generations of students who have graced the space over the last 100+ years. Fast-forward to 2021. Today's students thrive in an environment of collaboration, multimedia presentations, and active learning, but the room prohibits all of these activities with a relentless echo. The situation is unworkable for any type of class discussions in its current state. Research shows that in this type of acoustical situation, students will only hear about 75% of the words spoken by the teacher. Additionally, it is nerve wracking for the kids when they are in large classes to have so many echoing voices. By installing acoustical panels, the echo will be significantly resolved. I chose these tiles because they are fire rated as safe for schools, easy for me to install, and will blend nicely with the color and character of the room. The students are looking forward to the day when we can truly enjoy all of the ambiance of our school with all of the benefits of enjoying the engaging activities available to the students of today.
