While reading some of the classics with my students, I would love to also provide them with current selections that will complement what we are currently reading as well as the connection with society. We are presently reading To Kill a Mockingbird. I want to also read the contemporary novel, The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas and the book in verse, For Every One by Jason Reynolds with the students. Unfortunately, our school does not have copies of these titles. I would like class sets of each. I want to the students to have the opportunity to see beyond the pages and think critically. I want them to explore through novels and poetry. I want them to feel empowered and know they are important and their voices are heard.
