These books will be used for independent reading at home for students to make connections between these modern interpretations and the original classics. My goal is for students to develop a passion for reading and become life-long learners. In our first unit, students are asked to identify how modern works of fiction draw on previous or classic texts for inspiration. As a class, we read The Graveyard Book and compare it to The Jungle Book. I want my students to make similar comparisons while reading on their own. I’d also like to give them a variety of choices for reading.
