The majority of my students come from low-income households, therefore, they are enrolled in the school's free and reduced-price lunch program; however, lunch options aren't available after hours. I host a variety of college advising sessions after school, both virtually and in-person, to guide students through the entire college application process. Snacks will nourish both their bodies and minds while they work through the rigors of preparing for college/life after high school. For those that are attending events virtually, they will have the option to pick up snacks during events like report card/progress report pickups. I found that providing candy as a reward increases student participation and adds to the excitement of the event taking place. Therefore, the candy will serve as a positive incentive for them to accomplish their goals and complete tasks promptly. The bulletin board decorations and letter cutouts will be used to highlight important events, broadcast information, and celebrate the students' achievements in a fun and vibrant manner. Letter trays help me to stay organized so that I can easily distribute printouts, flyers, and other important information, during events and classroom presentations. Lastly is the 'How to Write an Essay' book. This would be extremely helpful as it would be used to guide my 11th and 12th grade students on how to write powerful personal essays for scholarships and college applications.
