This project will add more diverse and relevant books to my classroom library for students to choose, read, learn from, and enjoy. By the time that they are in high school, many high school students no longer read books of choice for enjoyment. Some high school students still have not found books that they like yet. According to the book "Readicide", by Kelly Gallagher, without supporting choice reading for students, they will no longer have a love a reading. At my school, we encourage and provide silent reading time for students to read books of choice so that they can revitalize an interest and enjoyment of reading; however, this means that students need choices of diverse, relevant, and interesting books to actually read. This project will add a number of newer books to my classroom library for students to choose and read. I often buy books with my own money, and there is a smaller school library; however, with one hundred and fifty students with varying interests and reading levels, it is a challenge to provide books to all of my students to support reading connected to their interests. During reading time, I watch carefully to see which types of books students are reading. I have been teaching for many years, and I know which topics my students are generally interesting in. I understand the different experiences and backgrounds of my students. I also want to continue to help students expand their understanding. I have chosen books in order to add additional copies of books that have been loved for years, and I have chosen new books to expand interests and present more diverse voices for students. Thank you for your support!
