Our classroom will be much more inviting with a cozy rug for my students to come together as a community. As a new teacher at my school, I am just as curious about getting to know my students as they are about me. Our rug will serve as a safe place to bring us together and delve into identity building activities as we get to know one another as individuals. The read-aloud books that I have included such as "All Are Welcome" and "The Name Jar" will foster conversations and activities for students to feel represented as well as gain awareness of others who are unique. As I am designing my inclusive learning community, I am also designing the physical environment for students to feel welcome, valued, and cared about. Through our safe and inclusive environment, students will be able to maximize their learning and time spent in the classroom.
