Flexible seating will empower my 2nd grade students to have a degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to make the best choice for concentration and focus. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. During independent work time, students can choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Making sure students are comfortable motivates them to focus. I have observed that when students are given a choice in their seating, they make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed, compared to sitting in their own desk. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. The products that I have selected will help my students in various ways. Flex floor seats allows students to choose where they would like to sit in the classroom, while providing back support and comfort. Balance balls and chair bands are great for students who need to fidget and move without causing distractions. Wobble cushions are similar to sitting on a yoga balls – only smaller and more convenient. By having flexible seating options, students will have their own space to work independently, with a partner, or in small groups. Having flexile seating also helps with engagement and concentration. Giving our students seating choice will empower them to be motivated to learn every day.
