As a K-5 science teacher I plan to use these picture books to inspire creativity and learning in the area of STEM. Each booked would be partnered with a different STEM challenge or activity for various grade levels. For example, The Recess Queen by Alexis O'Neill is focused on bullying and how one strong person resolves the issue of bullying on the playground. This is a great lesson in general for all students! But, I will make it even better by having students partner together and work to create their very own playground out of different paper materials; then they would test out their playground with marbles aka children and make revisions as needed. I plan to do an extension STEM activity with each picture book listed!
