The materials in my project will support the social and emotional learning of all students I support at my school (643!). As we cope with a pandemic, children are struggling in a variety of ways, and the items I need in my office will help them in all facets of their lives. Children are facing a world of stressors and many don't have the skills to cope. As a result, we are seeing a rise in mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, and trauma. Having a counseling office that is filled with coping skills activities, therapeutic games, literature that focuses on their emotional literacy, self-soothing toys, and a calm space to process (such as a bean bag chair) will help to support a student in unique ways they are expressing their feelings is critical to their overall wellbeing. All of the items in my cart will benefit from this need.
