"I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book." - J.K. Rowling. As an English teacher, I've seen this quote ring true for my students who find a great book and can't put it down. Every day, part of my curriculum involves independent reading where students get to choose a book they are interested in and read it at the beginning or end of class. Students also have the option to "check out" a book from the class collection to take home and read, which is also beneficial for students that have to miss class because of illness or quarantine. Being able to lend them books from the class book collection is a great way for them to still feel connected to class and read outside of school. When my students find a great book they get excited to read, their imagination comes alive, their eyes stay off of screens longer and longer, and they think more deeply about the ideas and themes in the story. Having a broader range of books in the classroom will expose students to different genres and authors and continue to be excite them about reading. The donations from this project will open up entire worlds for my students and I sincerely thank you for your consideration of funding this project.
