The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will enrich their learning and collaboration. Our library is a place where all students regardless of their academic standing can come and find the resources they need to be successful. These makerspace materials will be used to give students access to hands-on experiences to design, experiment, create and build their projects. Three maker stations that I would like to create in the library are Keychain: Design & Make, Button: Design & Create, and Engineering: Design & Build. Play is a blueprint for learning. Although some individuals may criticize art projects, block building, button design in a library as mere play. There is much research available on play and its value in education. These types of activities allow for much deeper learning by building creativity, imagination, and innovation. Additionally, students will be able to practice working collaboratively in the makerspace stations to complete projects.
