Journalism/Yearbook is a great way for my students to express themselves, gain confidence, and be a part of something historical in their school community. We have a large population of students who receive free/reduced lunches. Many of our students have never owned a camera or learned to use one. Yearbook class creates a sense of belonging for students who need a place to shine. My students will learn how to become journalists, photographers, and adventurers, all while gaining the confidence they need to succeed. They can essentially "hide" behind a camera while leaving their mark on their school and their community.
