These diverse books represent some of the languages and cultures of my students. My classroom library is filled with a variety of genres, but what it is lacking is diversity. These books will give students the opportunity to read about their cultures and those of their peers. My students will now be able to identify with the main character(s). When students are given a wide variety of books to choose from, they are more likely to truely enjoy independent reading. I chose books that represent different languages, cultures, ethnicities, and races. It will be a great way for us to share and celebrate everyone's differences! Every student will benefit from these books. Some of the graphic novels are great ways to get English language learners excited and interested in reading. My goal is for my students to enjoy reading and not feel like it is classwork.
