Our class set of We Are Displaced by Malala Yousafzai is a simple but poignant text that will help us explore the stories of refugee girls from around the world. These stories are both relatable for our students who have similar experiences and eye opening for those who haven't. Also, I want to give beginning language learners an opportunity to continue literacy in their own tongue in order to strengthen their ability to learn English. As such, some books in their own language they can read during class free reading time will not only help their literacy, but their sense of belonging.
