All of my students are students of color who are beginning readers. They all have some type of learning struggle and because of this, they need the most care, attention and resources in order be become literate and critical thinkers. The books I have chosen are all by author's of color, with perhaps one exception (the guided learning leveled books). It is proven with substantial research that children learn best when they feel represented and can relate to the content being taught. For this reason, and because we all could use some new stories in our lives, I have chosen all of these books.

About my class
