These materials will help our theatre program grow (it is only a few years old). The learning outcomes for my students both in class and after school include building team oriented attitudes, problem solving, creating unique design concepts, and embracing the human experience through acting. When my students have the opportunity to work more on hands on projects, rather than tests and worksheets, they are able to build empathy with their team members, reach higher tiered learning, and most of all, enjoy their day. It brings all of us great joy to see a student take pride in the set design model they built in class using popsicle sticks and paint, or to see their parents bringing them flowers after a great class showcase where they wrote and produced their own play. We even do a "food" competition in our prop unit where students compete to set the best table with food of their choosing. They use materials like wall spackle, clay, and foam. We then have the culinary arts program judge the prop art for authenticity. My students deserve to create to their minds' limit, and it disappoints me when their creativity is limited because we cannot afford the materials that are needed. My students love theatre because we have a project with every unit. The areas I teach are acting, playwriting, costumes, make-up, set, props, lighting, and sound. In the advanced theatre class, we put everything together into a showcase for parents to see.
