Many of my second-grade students are coming to school for the first time since they were kindergarteners as a result of the pandemic. They are so excited to be back at school, however, the adjustment to in-person learning has been difficult for my students. While they were learning at home, it was easier for them to take breaks throughout the day and get their wiggles out. Now, many of them struggle to maintain focus, show restlessness, and experience social anxiety. Having fidget toys at their desks and kick bands on their chairs will give students the comfort of physical movement while they focus on their school work and other activities. Additionally, Pop Its can be extremely helpful for teaching phonics, where students "pop" bubbles to identify letter sounds. By funding this project, you would give a group of 20 students the gift of learning how to come to school in person, which will serve them throughout their academic careers and into their lives as working adults.
