On a whim I brought in board games from home for my math students to play before the day began. It was miraculous to watch the students: a) leave their screens behind, b) begin talking and working through disagreements with other students they hadn't yet interacted with, and c) use the logical language of math I had been working so hard in class to instill. These games authentically brought my students together and started our day off on a high note of fun and cooperation. I believe having these games in our classroom regularly will change the tone and the motivation of all learners.
