One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is helping students to see knowledge as connected. Our hour-by-hour, subject-by-subject daily structure can lead students to compartmentalizing their understanding in each class. This book details the centuries-long quest to solve a problem that appears simple, and is anything but. We will read much of this book together as a class, and the set will be available for students during independent work time. The content in this book illuminates how people from various backgrounds engaged with mathematics throughout history. It is my hope that my students will see themselves in some of the mathematicians here.
