The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my first grade students will help to create a safe and inviting learning environment. COVID-19 has impacted many around the world, including the students in my classroom. With this being said, social-emotional learning is a big part of my student's learning path, especially this year coming back to school. Having only experienced school remotely, classroom community and self identity is going to be vital for their first year in-person learning. With the rug requested, I hope to bring a calming atmosphere into the classroom of students, whose home lives may be chaotic. I hope to give flexible seating options for students who are not comfortable sitting at a desk, by using floor pillows and high top tables. With the books requested, I hope to bring a feeling of family and classroom community to all my students where they feel welcomed no matter their background. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student learning but help to create an environment where students feel safe to learn and accepted by all.
