I am trying to build a library that provides windows and mirrors to my students. I want my students to have books where they can see themselves in the story, and books where they can learn about experiences that differ from their own. I want to provide my students a reading experience that promotes positive self-esteem, curiosity, wonder, and compassion. With the help of generous donors, I was able to provide my students with stories that reflect their Indigenous identities. However, my students are not just Indigenous. Many are multi-racial. I believe it's important that my students are able to see all parts of their identities reflected in the stories they choose to read. This is why I am asking for your help in funding books for my classroom library that represents diverse characters. The books I selected portray characters from different racial and cultural backgrounds. Characters speak different languages, and there are some LGBTQ characters as well. I also included books with different reading levels so that all of my students can access these titles.
