Being able to provide my students with a comfortable reading space, would increase their desire to become lifelong readers and learners. During independent reading time, the students would have the option to read anywhere in the room they felt comfortable. Increased exposure to reading materials at school will lead to a strong desire to read at home and expose other family members to diverse, cultural reading materials. I would like to create a corner reading area that would allow students to read comfortably using comfy pillows and a lamp for low lighting. This would also create a space for me to provide read alouds throughout the day!
