This year our school's literacy initiative is extending to all subject areas. While science has always involved reading, literacy is a particular push due to the lost time with the COVID-19 pandemic. Again, my science classroom is hands-on but also involves a lot of research. This class set of headphones would not only aid students in reading about the topics at hand, but it will assist students in reading challenging articles with unfamiliar words. This would tremendously assist both the english language learners and the special education students. Each of the units is comprised of an over-arching problem and teaches the students problem-solving practices. For example, one of our units involves diagnosing a patient with a medical condition. The students are tasked with researching various conditions and comparing it to the patient's clinical presentations. The students would work both individually and in small groups watching videos and reading about these conditions.
