We have a trail that is 5 minutes walk from the classroom that runs by a seepage swamp, often very muddy in the spring and fall. This is a great location to teach stream ecology, watershed dynamics, erosion, and forest ecology. We have a box full of boots men's sizes 10 and 12...but our female students have had to bring their own boots or wet their shoes in the past. We teach 5 sections of AP Environmental Science and about 10 sections of Earth Science among about 10 teachers who share our boot supply. The standard high school science vendors fail to cover the breadth of sizes we need.
