My students are traditional aged high school students enrolled in an early college program. Most of them have never set foot on a community college campus before. My Academic Success class is designed to help kids be successful in this new environment. I want them to feel like our classroom is their home away from home. When they walk into the room, I want them to see work areas with comfortable seating (patio chairs and barrel chair), motivational posters on the walls (the sets of posters), and be able to take a break from studying by watching our fish in our 25 gallon fish tank (the automatic fish feeder will help keep them healthy when we are not in school). The students will be able to take advantage of our in room refreshment center for a mug of hot chocolate or tea (the hot water kettle and mugs) while getting help with their homework and collaborating on projects. These kids struggle with organization and time management. They can become easily distracted and need to work in a classroom space that is calm and inviting and feels as much like home as possible. Please help me provide them with a work area that will support their success.
