These books will help my students grow their love of reading and show them the experiences of kids like them in other parts of the world. Some of the books are set in countries we will be studying in depth this year, like Peru and Guatemala, while others will allow them to get a taste of countries we will only touch on but they will be able to reference on our wall map. My kids are at varying reading levels and having a selection of graphic novels will engage all of them - the format lowers barriers for students that struggle with reading. We have a one million word goal per student this year; engaging reading material set in Latin America will help my kids get excited about reading while also expanding their understanding of our world. Their literacy will improve and they will be better learners and more prepared for the world!
