I am a veteran special education education teacher in an inner city school. This is the first time I will be teaching 7th and 8th grade students My students have very limited access to books and most are reading significantly below grade level. I feel that if they were exposed to novels that are interesting and fun, they might be more motivated to read on their own. By using the novels as a primary part of my instruction, we will be working on the books together. I am hoping that as we get into the novels the students will ask to take the books home if they want to read ahead. Students that are very low readers won't be let out because we will be working together so someone can read to them .
