Last year, these students experienced Kindergarten remotely. I want to create a good experience for them as they enter 1st grade. For many, this will be their first experience in the classroom. I want to set them up for a wonderful beginning of their educational career. In my list, I included a lot of picture books related to social-emotional learning. These books are about inclusion, diversity, self-regulating emotions, encouragement, persistence, and taking risks. I want my students to learn that they are in charge of their learning and the direction of their life. As a bilingual teacher, I noticed the lack of Spanish and bilingual resources. It is very difficult to find accessible Spanish resources that are reasonably priced. As an educator, I want to provide to my students the appropriate resources that will send them to success. With the books and other items, I will be able to create a community that they lacked last year. I want them to feel comfortable in the classroom in order to take risks as they learn.
