These materials will help my students to do simple woodworking projects in class and around the school campus. In the past, my students have used old rusted and semi-unsafe tools to do the projects. My students are all young adults who have disabilities and learning with the "traditional pencil and paper method" is not effective for learning. Therefore our work study program involves a lot of hand on projects.
Some projects we have done in the past include - building shelves, making stools and benches, making a stage, making simple wooden boxes/ containers, fixing walls around air conditioners, repairing benches and tables, repairing unsafe wooden stairs/ railings around the campus and so on. In doing so, my students learn math skills, job skills, and teamwork without actually realizing they are working.
The best part of my job is seeing my students realize that they can so math (fractions and measurements) and be good teammates and future employees. Please help my students by "blessing" them with new tools... they will be so excited and motivated to learn!!! Thank you!
