In the past, our local electric company sponsored a Solar Boat Regatta. Two years ago the partnership ended, resulting in schools to purchase the kits for students. Due to the cost of the kits, students worked in teams of four. However, with the current pandemic and the inability to work side-by-side with each other, solar boat kits for each individual student is beyond the budget of classrooms. With the ability for each individual student to have their own solar boat kit, teachers will once again be able to hold the annual Solar Boat Regatta. Leading up to the regatta, students will design, develop, and produce a solar boat that can travel down a water path, created with a rain gutter. Research, trial and error, design modifications are all part of this process.
