These materials are not currently in my classroom. I have used them successfully in the past as effective tools which allowed my students to know their letter names and sounds and use this knowledge to read and write words, sentences, and stories. Second-grade students will have many opportunities to become independent readers and writers based on learning opportunities provided by these materials. The use of alphabet cards in a pocket chart allows students to learn how a word changes when one letter is changed. The use of alphabet strips allows building and revising of sentences. The use of lined, dry erase boards allows students to focus on proper letter formation when writing letters or words given during dictation. The use of task chairs allows for rapid revision of items in a pocket chart or small group table, for the most efficient use of learning time. Use of items in Alphabet Sounds Teaching Tubs of items allows students to connect sounds in words.
