Our school's academic plan this year added a focus on writing, and inclusive practices. We will have special education students and general education students learning together the entire school day to create a more inclusive environment for all students. A General Education Teacher and Special Education Teacher will be co-teaching in the classroom. With the inclusion model, students benefit from the social and emotional support that they provide for each other, and gain valuable knowledge as they share their thinking and learning strategies. Creative writing is a skill that supports student learning in all subjects. Writing helps students think more deeply and clarify their understandings. This creative writing project allows the students to choose what they want to write about and share their voice, using written expression. When students are allowed to choose the topic they are interested in, and then explore what they know, and what they want to know about their topic of interest, they are more excited and engaged in the work. The Illustory, complete make a book kits will give our students the chance to bring their imagination to life. This project gives their creative minds a chance to express themselves in a way that will foster self confidence, and pride in their effort and accomplishment. Students learn when they are thinking, doing, and applying skills. This learning experience will help them to think for themselves, develop their creative minds and produce something that is meaningful, relevant, and connected to their learning.
