My primary goal is to transform our 6th Grade Science curriculum to be an agriculturally focused learning experience. The ability to spend our class periods developing garden projects, experiment with herbs and produce, inside and outside, conducting experiments and investigations in an organic natural setting. We are requesting gardening supplies like tools and gloves I cannot pronounce enthusiastically enough the benefit of getting student minds curious about nature! Giving haumana the opportunity to put hands in the soil, interacting with plants and potentially even animals eventually, and explore those relationship with their peers in an academic setting...is revolutionary. Our overarching goal with the agricultural program will be to produce food. Hawai`i currently imports 90% of its fresh produce, even though most produce can grow well here. We want to make good, healthy, really fresh food available to our community. We also want our students to feel confident that they know how to grow food well and in healthy symbiosis with their ecosystem.
