The sensory items will provide various therapeutic benefits to the severely and profoundly disabled student population. Students have needs that vary from visual, hearing, and/or spatial. They can be autistic, have ADHD, etc. Having the additional items in the sensory room will improve the program that we can provide by allowing the students different experiences. For example, a sound system and a galaxy lighting projector system can help regulate behaviors/emotions. This also allows the student to learn coping skills on how to improve their reactions and behaviors. Some students have limited abilities to develop or maintain coping skills. The additional items will create a safe environment that allows the students to calm down and focus. Some students have coping skills or can develop while others need external factors to help regulate their behaviors and emotions. A well-developed sensory room can meet this need.
