My project is designed to help ease students from the online classroom back into the physical classroom. Over the last year and a half, students have become accustomed to a way of being in the classroom. They have been in class on a computer with easy access to tools like Google Docs and Word for note taking. They have also been able to use the chat function to ask questions about topics that they do not understand. With the return to in-person learning, these features will be absent from the students' arsenal of tools for success. I want my students to have the ability to write and ask a question like they do using the chat in a virtual class. Therefore, I would like to purchase a class set of whiteboards and dry erase markers for my students. During my time teaching virtually, I noticed that when I gave the option for my students to draw their response, they showed a much deeper understanding than they could display with words. I want this in my physical classroom as well. The whiteboards and dry erase markers will facilitate this. I also want my students to be able to take effective notes in a chemistry lab notebook. I would like to provide a class set of notebooks to my students as I know that purchasing school supplies this year may not be the number one priority of some families. A chemistry lab notebook will help my students hone their skills as practical scientists as it will teach them responsibility and persistence. This will also help my students transition back to the physical classroom from the virtual classroom. In the virtual classroom, students had instant access to their note taking platform via technology, and now students need to relearn physical note taking.
